Where are we?
The European Union consists of 27 independent member states (e.g. France, Bulgaria). Chief among them is Italy, itself made up of 20 regions (Tuscany, Sicily, etc.) of varying shapes and sizes. The entire heel of the boot is the region of Puglia. Its capital and biggest city is Bari (200,000 pop.), but your destination is 2 hours further South: the city of Lecce (90,000 pop.), the actual wedding venue. Lecce is the ‘capital’ of the subregion of Salento (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salento). Most of the advice henceforth will be talking about Salento at large.
Do I need to rent a car?
Within any given town, you can walk wherever you want. However the beaches, wedding venue, and best tourist attractions are all 20+ minutes apart by car and rural roads can be perilous to pedestrians. So to get from town to town you will need to either drive or utilize public transport.
How do I utilize the public transport?
Trains in Italy are very effective, and tickets can be bought on https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html, but the train tracks stop at Lecce, and are only useful to get to major cities northward. Within Salento, an extensive bus system does exist, and Google maps is able to get you from point A to point B, but do not count on the hours being accurate, for they are not.

Which airport should I fly into?
The nearest airport is Brindisi (BDS). From there, Lecce is a 30 minute drive, or 40 minute bus ride away. This airport is ideal to leave from, because it is very fast to get through. The second option is Bari airport (BRI), which is a 3 hour train ride from Lecce. The third best option is the Rome airport (FCO), which is often voted the nicest airport in the world, and is a brisk 7 hour train ride away from Lecce.

Do I need to speak Italian?
If you don’t speak it, English may be more effective. Most young people will speak it fine, and anyone working in tourism will be happy to do it. Maybe just don’t speak too fast or use too much slang (e.g. ‘’I gotta get outta here’’ may be more difficult to understand than ‘’I must leave this place’’).
